I know everyone is focused on their New Years Resolution of losing 50 pounds or whatever but what if I told you that craft beer actually has health benefits. If that doesn’t convert commercial beer drinkers I don’t know what will. I can’t even tell you how many times I have had people nag me about how craft beer is fattening and how its unhealthy while they are drinking a vodka cranberry which by the way has a ton of sugar.
I will actually mention that I actually don’t drink cocktails or any liquor at all and have been that way since this past summer. Now there is so much information on the health benefits of craft beer and here are a few I found the most compelling.
1. Craft Beer has a A lot of Nutrients
So craft beer has a lot of nutrients like potassium, protein, calcium, and iron. So it makes your bones and muscles healthy and it helps with iron deficiency. It is also great for people who do a lot of cardio because it replenishes the carbs that those people depend on. It is actually healthier than wine even because it has more vitamin B. It actually helps prevents osteoperosis too.
2. Prevents Inflamation
Now this is a health benefit I’m very interested in because I have struggled with Plantar Fasciitis since my junior year of college. Now just so you guys know what I’m talking about your Plantar Fascia is a tissue that connects your big toe to your heel and basically what Plantar Fasciitis means is that tissue is super inflamed. Now back to the beer, what is the most common ingredient in beer? Hops and not only do they provide a great taste to beer they also contain something called “bitter acids”, which is a chemical that fights inflammation in the body. Wish I would’ve known that four years ago.
3. Polishes Teeth
So your dentist has probably talked about something called Biofilm with you. Well, drinking beer prevents that from getting on your teeth. It could even block the bacteria that causes tooth decay and gum disease.
4. Protects Kidneys
I know I was shocked about this too but yes it could prevent kidney stones because of it helps increase the flow of urine. It also dilutes the water which prevents the kidney stones from forming.
Now that there is circumstantial evidence that craft beer is healthy for you lets all make a new years resolution to drink more of it. Until next time hoppy travels!
