Every town or a city has a place to go to to celebrate things like new jobs or maybe even quitting your desk job and finally living the vagabond lifestyle you have always wanted. For Scottsdale one of those places is Fate Brewing. Fate started in 2012 with a tiny seven barrel brewhouse and 14 barrel fermentation space in North Scottsdale.

They had a lot of community support from the beginning. In fact that they had so much support that they kept running out of their own beer so then they opened up their South Scottsdale location in 2015. They now have a 15 barrel brewhouse and fermentation space of 180 barrels.

Now that you know a little bit about the brewery lets dive into the beer:

Barrel-Aged Smoked Porter

This double mashed baltic porter sits at a high 10% ABV. Fate ferments this slow and low with their house German lager yeast and then age it for almost a year. As a result you get this full bodied beer with a smoky, cherry, and dark chocolate taste.

Fatality

If you’re looking for something extremely hoppy definitely go with the Fatality. This American IPA sits at 7.5% ABV and is specifically brewed to “finish” your taste buds with a ridiculous amount of hops such as Galaxy, Mosaic, Columbus, and Chinook.

Fateful IPA

This is the Pale Ale’s big brother sitting at 6.6% ABV. This West Coast IPA is  approachable but you get that nice hop punch. This is brewed with a variety of hops such as Chinook, Warrior, Simcoe, Cascade, Columbus, and Falconer’s Flight.

Hatch Chile Gatos

If you are looking for something a little lighter with a little bit of a spice kick go for the Hatch Chile Gatos sitting at 4.8% ABV. This beer won a gold medal at the World Beer Cup in 2018 so it won’t disappoint. This is a Golden Ale with roasted Hatch Chiles. You get a big chile aroma but surprisingly very little heat.

Halfway to Heffen

Say you want something light but your not a fan of chili this is another good light choice sitting at 4.8% ABV. Halfway to Heffen is your typical Hefeweizen with notes of banana and vanilla perfect for cooling yourself off in the summer heat.

Irish Red

For all of you Red Ale fans Fate has something for you as well. This Red Ale sits at 5.4% ABV so still easy to drink. It is copper red and very malt focused and is sweet at first but roasty and dry at the finish. It will definitely bring out the Irish in you!

Local Lager

For all of plain jane’s their is something for you as well. This American Lager sits at 4.5% ABV and is actually brewed with a Pilsner malt. It is lightly hopped to balance out the crisp.

Lon’s Hoppy Lager

Now for those of you looking for something a little hoppier but not wanting an IPA the Hoppy Lager is a great choice. This collaboration with Lon’s at Hermosa Inn sits at 5.7% ABV and it combines a local malt from Sinagua malt, purple barley, and Hallertau Blanc. It gives off this crispy and hoppy feel with notes of wine grapes and bread.

269 American Wheat

If you are looking for something hoppy but your more of a wheat beer person the 269 is the way to go. This is a Comstock style wheat beer sitting at 5% ABV. It is fermented with a fruity yeast strain and then hopped with only Falconer’s Flight hops. You get a lot of citrusy notes with a crisp finish.

Lon’s Peach Wit

Also a collaboration with Lon’s this witbier sits at 5.5% ABV. This is a classic Belgian white ale with Pilsner Malt and Sonoran Wheat with 300 pounds of local peaches from Schnepf Farms.

If any of you are interested in some of these beers come by Janey’s in Cave Creek for Thirsty Thursday on August 22nd at 7:00 PM. Until next time Hoppy Travels!
